Dermal Fillers explained

Dermal fillers involve a number of micro-injections of filler below the surface of the skin, or use of the cannula technique, to add volume, enhance facial contours, and fight the signs of ageing. Hyaluronic acid is the primary ingredient in dermal fillers, a chemical that occurs naturally in your own body. As we age, our bodies produce less hyaluronic acid, resulting in a reduction in the skin’s hydration, which impacts its texture, look and feel. The result – lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. Dermal fillers reintroduce hyaluronic acid into the skin which stimulates it to rejuvenate, to add volume and, as a result, to reduce those lines and wrinkles.

Who could benefit?

  • If you are looking for a quick, safe and effective anti-ageing treatment

  • If you suffer from worry lines, crow’s feet or laugh lines

  • If you are looking to add volume to cheeks, lips, forehead or chin

  • If you are looking to reduce wrinkles around eyes, nose and mouth

  • If you have lines and facial furrows you’d like to minimise

What to expect from your treatment?

  • The Consultation. Dermal fillers can help most people, but there are some for whom other treatments may be better suited. The consultation time we take before any treatment is our opportunity to determine the suitability of dermal fillers for your needs and for you to ask any questions you might have about the treatment, its results, repeat treatments, and so forth.

  • The Treatment. Dermal fillers can be used across multiple problem areas of the face. Naturally some areas are more sensitive than others, which is why a topical anaesthetic gel or injection may be used at our consultant’s discretion to minimise any discomfort that may be experienced. The treatment itself involves a series of micro-injections of filler under the skin. The full treatment will be completed within 30–45 minutes.

  • Downtime and Downside? Dermal fillers are an incredibly common treatment, and from the many, many thousands that are carried out worldwide we know that most people are able to resume normal activities after the treatment. As with all injectable treatments there is the potential for minor swelling, bruising and tenderness, but this should subside within 24 hours.

  • How Long Does It Last? You should see an improvement to your skin texture shortly after the treatment and the duration of these visible results depends on the area treated and the filler used and can vary between 3 and 12 months and 18 to 24 month before a top-up treatment is recommended.
